Squad Goals

RARESeries 2023-24LEMint 98Dallas Mavericks

Home to a handful of the Association’s absolute best highflyers, passers, and highlight reel creators, the Dallas Mavericks showed the Utah Jazz how lethal that unique combination can look when sequenced together. Connected on defense and focused on ballooning their 15-point advantage into something greater, Dallas stifles the Utah Jazz’s offensive plans along the perimeter, with Mavericks superstar Luka Dončić selflessly taking one for the team, swiping at the ball and then diving to the floor to corral a steal. Capable of flair and flash even from his grounded state, Dončić hooks an over-the-head dime to a cutting Kyrie Irving, who readies himself for a fastbreak attack, commanding Walker Kessler’s attention just long enough to complete a similarly-thrown over-the-shoulder lob pass to Derrick Jones Jr. for a tenacious alley-oop jam. In checking off their seventh win in eight games, the red-hot Mavericks put on a clinic in cohesion, setting the table for one another on the way to 18 dunks — second-most by a team in the NBA’s single-game history — alongside 33 assists and 18 turnovers forced on March 21, 2024.
