As WNBA watchers worldwide can attest, there’s always the potential for basketball magic when the league’s No. 1 and No. 2 fastest-paced teams share the floor at once. Established already as one of the game’s most dynamic, must-watch offensive talents, Kelsey Mitchell didn’t leave observers waiting long for the opportunity to see that excitement in play. Racing towards the rim in hopes of catching the Dallas Wings’ transition defense unprepared, Mitchell finds herself as the beneficiary of a length-of-the-floor bounce pass, setting up a could-be 2-on-1 advantage, should she react quickly. Entirely up to the challenge, Mitchell slings a breathtaking behind-the-back dime to her teammate, putting the highlight reel creators to work just two minutes into September 1, 2024’s duel. What followed would be thrill-after-thrill, as Dallas and Indiana embarked on individually-historic performances and 20 lead changes. A star among the night’s greats, Mitchell turned in 36 points (on 12-of-22 shooting), six rebounds, three assists, and five triples, sustaining a sizzling stretch in which Mitchell recorded at least 20+ points in nine of her last 10 games.
