Four championship rings were already on Steve Kerr's hand when he walked into American Airlines Center for Game 6 of the 2003 Western Conference Finals, and the fifth was 12 points away. San Antonio trailed by 15 late in Q3 when the 37-year-old checked in during the final season of a 15-year career, and he found the wing, caught in rhythm and let it go before a hand could reach him. Two of the four triples he buried landed in a Q4 the Spurs stretched into a 34-point run that ended the series, the ball leaving his fingertips the same way every time. Kerr finished a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor and 4-of-4 from behind the arc for 12 points, two rebounds and three assists in the 90-78 win that carried San Antonio to its second NBA Finals. He retired that summer with five rings and the highest career three-point percentage in league history at 45.4 percent, then took over Golden State in 2014 and won 67 games in his first season, the most ever by a first-year head coach. Four more championships followed in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022, along with six Finals appearances, the 2015-16 Coach of the Year award and a gold medal with Team USA in Paris in 2024. When his 2015-16 Warriors went 73-9, the record they broke belonged to the 1995-96 Bulls, a team Kerr had won a title with as a player.
