For two decades, the Minnesota Timberwolves have watched as talented inside-out duos have come and go. But with the chance at winning their first postseason series since 2004 well within reach, it’s safe to say that few tandems have evoked as much confidence as the Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns combo. Quick and assertive in proving that 2023-24 would be different, the Timberwolves’ pairing got on the hunt early, turning a red-hot start into a year-long race for the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed. Along the way, the improvements have been tangible and intangible, with Edwards upping his scoring for the fourth-straight year (25.9 points) while also using his one-of-a-kind athletic gifts to make breathtaking defensive plays. Edwards’ All-NBA co-star wasn’t short on history, either, using this season to become just the league’s seventh player ever to produce multiple 60-point games. Battling injuries, turned in a consistent scoring average (21.8) on nearly a 50-40-90 split. With back-to-back first round appearances in successive years, Towns and Edwards are well-equipped to adjust the Wolves’ fortunes in the near future.
