WNBA Rookie Revelation

LEGENDARYSeries 2023-24LEMint 49Chicago Sky

Taking a brief moment to catch her breath after yet another historic performance on June 23, 2024, Angel Reese — in recognition of her tireless work ethic — described herself as a “dog.” In a game that featured postseason-like physicality, the nationally-televised spotlight, and a rowdy Chicago Sky crowd, one might argue, then, that 2024’s No. 7 pick was perfectly within her backyard. In search of energy after playing all of 10 seconds in the second half, Reese positions herself for a post-up against NaLyssa Smith, a player with whom Reese had exchanged trash talk and “too little” celebrations with throughout. Coming up big when it mattered most, Reese shoulders her way into the paint, ultimately working into her sweet spot for a go-ahead finish in the final minute. The bucket provided punctuation to a ferocious run by Chicago, who trailed by a dozen with six-and-a-half minutes remaining. Alongside the comeback win over the Indiana Fever, Reese made herself a footnote in the WNBA’s record books once more, recording 25 points (on 8-of-12), 16 rebounds, and one assist, extending her rookie double-double streak to an eighth consecutive game.
