The classic number’s advantage on the fastbreak only truly matters if the players in question understand how to balance the tightrope between being selfless and sharp in their instincts. A checker of both boxes throughout her basketball journey, Jacy Sheldon illusrates the process, first by getting a head start in her down-the-floor leak, with numerous Dallas Wings teammates prepared to join her for a favorable four-on-two opportunity. As the ball, and thus, the Seattle Storm’s attention, swings her way, Sheldon turns her intuition up multiple notches, working a half-catch, half-pass in midair, setting up her teammate’s thrilling and-one finish. Sheldon’s heads-up play helped Dallas — settled into a groove that could bode well for future seasons — open a 21-point first half edge against a potential WNBA title contender. A two-point loss would eventually quell the Wings’ victory hopes in their home finale, but not before putting on a memorable show on September 13, 2024. Through her usual, contribute-everywhere approach, Sheldon recorded seven points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal, and a 3-point make.
