By March of 1997, the Orlando offense ran entirely through Penny Hardaway, and he had gotten very comfortable with the last shot. Down to the final seconds at The Summit on March 12, Hardaway got into the lane, rose, hung in the air while Hakeem Olajuwon extended everything he had, and lofted a floater over the top that dropped clean with 1.1 seconds showing. Houston's answer from deep never fell, and Orlando walked out with a 96-95 win. The game-winner capped a 31-point night for the four-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA First Team selection who had carried the Magic to the Finals two years earlier and would average 31 points a game across that spring's playoffs.
