The reigning Defensive Player of the Year spent his nights taking the ball away from people. Once in a while he took the whole game. San Antonio trailed Philadelphia by one in the closing seconds on February 26, 1987 when Alvin Robertson stepped out to 26 feet and let the 3-pointer go, and the floor came apart as it fell through for a 96-94 win. He was on his way to a second straight steals title and another All-Defensive First Team selection, and the box score reads like the case for him. One year earlier he had become the only guard in league history to record a quadruple-double, and the only player anywhere to build one on steals. Robertson finished with 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals.
