Charlotte used the ninth pick of the 2011 draft on a closer. On January 14, 2012, Kemba Walker met David Lee out on the floor, shook him loose with a crossover and dropped a floater over the top with the foul coming, the kind of shot that would carry a franchise for the next eight seasons. Walker poured in 23 points, a season high to that point in his rookie year, as the Bobcats handled Golden State 112-100 at Time Warner Cable Arena. Cardiac Kemba would go on to four All-Star selections and leave Charlotte as the franchise's all-time leading scorer, but the blueprint was already there: get to the spot, take the contact, finish soft.
