Detroit shaped Jalen Rose long before the NBA got hold of him, and on March 10, 1995 the city got to see what it had made. Back home at The Palace of Auburn Hills with 21,454 watching, the Denver Nuggets rookie faced up Allan Houston on the wing, sold a shimmy that bought him half a step, then spun into the lane and floated a soft one over the top. The 13th pick of the 1994 draft was running the offense for a Nuggets team climbing back into playoff position, and he controlled the night in a 99-88 win, sinking nine of his 10 free throws along the way. The All-Rookie nod came that spring; a Most Improved Player award and an NBA Finals run with Indiana came later. Rose totaled 20 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists and two steals.
