On the short trip from a team with one highflying nickname to another, Dyson Daniels certainly packed plenty of athleticism and ambition into his figurative suitcase. Offering too much for the Brooklyn Nets to handle on either side of the floor, the Atlanta Hawks’ newly-acquired guard craftily works through a particularly memorable sequence, corralling a left-corner pass with Cam Thomas preparing to closeout and give chase. Taking Brooklyn’s bucket-getting guard for a rollercoaster ride with a delayed between-the-leg dribble and spin, followed by a nifty pump fake to leave him airborne, Daniels finally displays mercy, pivoting into a soft-touch banker. Seemingly poised for a breakout campaign after spending two-high energy seasons contributing to loaded backcourts in The Bayou, Daniels’ debut was one for the record books on October 23, 2024. Overwhelming Brooklyn with active hands, propeller-like arms, and awe-inspiring two-way play, Daniels’ final tally ultimately read as follows: 15 points (on 6-of-12 shooting), five rebounds, two assists, five steals — and 10 deflections — alongside one block and two trifectas.
