The New York Knicks have come a long way since the infamous, “eight-points-in-nine-seconds” sequence that became embedded into their franchise’s history some three decades ago. But every few seasons, a hustle-minded two way talent arrives, offering the blue-and-orange a subtle reminder of just how quickly one’s scoreboard can change if execution gets sloppy. Prepared to be the latest in line, Josh Green speeds ahead of New York’s disorganized defense, burying a midrange bucket with 1.1 seconds remaining, likely guaranteeing the Charlotte Hornets a one-point halftime edge. Intent on playing to the buzzer, Green — almost magnet-like in his interception — telegraphs Mikal Bridges’ errant inbounds pass before spinning into a buzzer-beating fallaway shot, all within a single motion. Deserving of the ensuing applause, Green’s four-points-in-five seconds statement served as the peak in a 15-point contribution (on 6-of-12 shooting), alongside a one-rebound, three-assist, two-steal, three-triple complement. A much-discussed extended bounce on his last-second triple left Charlotte short on time and intentional foul opportunities, but Green, during November 29, 2024’s one-point loss, shined nonetheless in the starting role.
