Rookie Debut

COMMONSeries 2023-24LEMint 4,000Golden State Warriors

Although he may be a long way from home as the Association’s only current Brazilian-born player, Gui Santos’ method of choice for his first-ever NBA bucket was anything but foreign. Eyeballing the chance at a milestone score, the Golden State Warriors swingman, fittingly, waits for the defense to avert its eyes before slipping into a cunning backdoor cut. Free to retrieve his teammate’s no-look dime, Santos works established chemistry with one of his trusted Summer League go-tos, finishing a rookie-to-rookie connection with a right-handed reverse layup off the glass. Smooth and intuitive in his style, Santos has both proven to be a seamless fit in the Warriors’ pass-happy offense, while also extending the franchise’s lineage of Brazilian talent. In the loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 16, 2023, the former second-rounder needed just three minutes to tally up two points, three rebounds, and one assist.
