Road underdogs they may have been, as the Washington Wizards battled through a home-and-home set against the Atlanta Hawks on October 28, 2024. Unphased entirely by the venue, though, Jordan Poole left it abundantly clear that the game’s most decisive message would be sent from far away. Featured in the highlight reels with smoothly-synchronized stepbacks and long-range lasers already, Poole — recognizing the chance to deliver another with the game’s result in question — shoos away a pick-and-roll-ready teammate on multiple occasions, preparing himself for an isolation tango. Elusive enough in his between-the-leg, stepback combination to completely escape Jalen Johnson’s contest, Poole separates into a cold-blooded 27-footer, ultimately serving as one of the game’s daggers. Accurate in the foul shooting contest thereafter, Poole orchestrated the 2024-25 Wizards’ first win, with 26 points (on 9-of-17 shooting), five assists, two steals, and six 3-pointers worth celebrating on the flight home.
