After a career-high scoring output that featured highlights of every type, Devin Vassell took to a postgame press conference, prepared to entertain perhaps the only question he couldn’t definitively answer during March 4, 2025’s masterclass. With enough talent to do both if he pleased, which was more likely to be in his future? All-Star Weekend’s Slam Dunk Contest, or the Three Point Shootout? As if he had something to prove, Vassell forced the Brooklyn Nets’ defense to experience some form of both, starting with a fearless fly-through-traffic dribble during a one-on-three, culminating with a ferocious, rim-rocking jam. In a battle between black-and-white-colored franchises, Vassell’s ultra-green release became the most “read” story, as he blended catch-and-shoot triples alongside one audacious pull-up in transition, later described as the moment in which Vassell knew it was “his night.” Box scores, victories, and a jaw-dropping video reel all worked cohesively, as Vassell left the greatest statistical game of his five-year career to date with 37 points (on a sizzling 14-of-20 shooting), 11 rebounds, five assists, five “stocks,” and eight 3-pointers.
