16 games above .500, and yet still in need of signature, “prove it” conquests over the NBA’s elites, the New York Knicks had, to many, mastered the art of teetering the tightrope between contender and pretender throughout 2024-25. Unfortunately for Thomas Bryant, experience in that metaphorical scenario left the Big Apple’s new All-Star center quite prepared during February 11, 2025’s literal instance. Like that of a movie protagonist hoping to avoid red lasers in a secured room, Towns balances along the baseline, with both the white-taped out-of-bounds line and a 6-foot-10 center threatening his progress at either side. Mixing nimbleness with an ultimate show of power, Towns aces the test through a ferocious two-handed flush, followed by a well-earned staredown in celebration. A great equalizer during a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals, Towns helped secure a measure of payback through a 40-point masterclass, joined by 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and extraordinary efficiency overall (14-of-23), from deep (three-of-eight), and on free throws (nine-of-nine).
