When the already-starpowered New York Knicks signed OG Anunoby to their franchise’s largest guaranteed contract last summer, expectations were that a specific type of excellence would then follow when high-pressure postseason games came about. Against the defending-champion Boston Celtics in Game One of 2025’s East Semifinals, Anunoby devoted a 46-minute masterpiece to checking every potential box possible. Seemingly moving at a different speed than Boston throughout a come-from-behind second half, Anunoby uses said pace advantageously, jetting past Jayson Tatum with his across-the-court teammate already clued in on the could-be highlight. Given little room for liftoff upon catching the basketball promptly at the rim, Anunoby handles the job anyways, powering into a two-handed and-one to all but steal momentum in overtime. Turning a 20-point deficit into yesterday’s news, Anunoby steered a Game One comeback through two-way brilliance. Alongside holding opposing Celtics to 1-of-15 (6.6 percent) shooting as the primary defender, Anunoby complemented it through 29 points (on 10-of-20 shooting), four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and six 3-pointers on May 5, 2025.
