As the NBA’s No. 1 team in terms of generating pick-and-roll points, the Cleveland Cavaliers have left it crystal clear that, regardless of whether a guard or forward is running the show, it’ll be must-see television nonetheless. Offering a case in point as he surveys the scene of the Atlanta Hawks’ defense from the right 3-point slot, Evan Mobley uses a teammate’s space-clearing inverted ball screen, punching a first-class ticket to the paint. Poised to make All-Star leaps in more ways than one in 2024-25, Mobley elevates, outmatching fellow slam artist Jalen Johnson by powering through an acrobatic two-handed flush that extends Cleveland’s second quarter lead. “Versatile” was perhaps the best word to describe Mobley’s approach, even as Cleveland ran into an early-season kryptonite of sorts during November 27, 2024’s defeat. Must-see on both sides of the floor, Mobley’s final box score read as follows: 22 points (on 7-of-15 shooting), 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals, three blocks, one 3-pointer, a game-high 13 contested shots, and four deflections.
