Base Set

Given Philadelphia’s elite, fourth-ranked placement in steals per game prior to January 10, 2025, the New Orleans Pelicans’ scouting reports were, in all likelihood, already clued in on one of the 76ers’ game-changing tendencies. Through one breathtaking post-halftime sequence, Kelly Oubre Jr. politely informed them that they, unfortunately, hadn’t seen anything just yet. Eager to, as the kids say, “match the energy” of his veteran teammate’s almost-steal just seconds prior, Oubre blends into Wells Fargo Center’s scenery before stealthily emerging to vacuum up Yves Missi’s seemingly-safe pass. Unbothered, even with two different defenders matching his stride step-for-step in transition, Oubre — with dark-blue jerseys at either side — catapults into a one-handed jam forceful enough to leave even himself admiring from a floor seat thereafter. The Philadelphia 76ers’ mettlesome play wouldn’t include victory here, but Oubre took command of the spotlight nonetheless, accumulating 21 points, seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, two 3-pointers, and four deflections.
